Fire Safety Advice During Industrial Action
During periods of industrial action it might be possible that those taking part in such industrial action may be nominated Fire Wardens within their respective departments. This could lead to buildings being left with a lower number of Fire Wardens than is ideal. It is therefore recommended that departmental Senior Leadership Teams review their Fire Warden provision and, where required, ensure that additional people are nominated as Fire Wardens.
The role of Fire Wardens is to support their department during a fire evacuation.
A 15-minute interactive fire safety awareness course has been developed to ensure the University of Warwick complies with fire safety legislation. The module includes tips on how to prevent a fire, what to do upon hearing the fire alarm, and how to summon security assistance.
The course is available for all new and existing staff, including postgraduate researchers.
You can self-enrol, access and complete the course on Moodle.
It is important to evacuate buildings swiftly and responsibly when a fire alarm is activated, irrespective of potential or perceived cause. There is no way of knowing during the early stages of an alarm whether it has been caused by a fire or not. Leaving the building quickly, ensuring as far as possible that others are doing likewise, has to be the priority in any fire alarm situation.
