Latest Government guidance on reopening spaces

You will have seen the latest Government guidance issued on Tuesday 23 June, which included reopening pubs, restaurants and hairdressers from Saturday 4 July and reopening some leisure facilities and tourist attractions. The Prime Minister also confirmed that indoor gyms and swimming pools will remain closed for now until further measures can be agreed to keep people safe.

It was also announced that, where it is not possible to stay two metres apart, guidance will allow people to keep a social distance of ‘one metre plus’. This means staying one metre apart, plus mitigations which reduce the risk of transmission.

The announcement affects the University’s reopening planning in that we will now not be reopening our Sports and Wellness Hub, Warwick Arts Centre or Warwick Conferences until we have permission from the Government to do so. We are, nevertheless, investigating options for staggered reopening of some operations – for example, reopening outdoor sports pitches.

Regarding the social distancing rules, the University will continue to follow the 2m rules but is reviewing each and every reopening request very carefully. We will only reduce to 1m social distancing where 2m is not possible and where additional measures can be implemented. We continue to plan for reopening in line with government guidelines.

All new information and news will be posted on the Stay Safe at Warwick website.
