Flame of Friendship coming soon | Monday 8 July
The Flame of Friendship Finale is coming to your University campus on Monday 8 July and we’d love you to come and cheer it on!
Launched at Coventry Cathedral on 22 February 2024, an Olympic-style torch has been making its way between Coventry schools in celebration of the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games. Over 60 schools all over the city have taken part in a relay, passing the torch from school to school. The final leg of the relay will see the torch make its way from Cannon Park Primary School to the Observatory on campus. Here it will take a short pause before the group, plus guests, take it onto the football pitch at Cryfield to join over 750 pupils and teachers from 42 schools, where everyone will take part in an Olympic-themed dance led by the Royal Opera House. After the dance, the torch and the entire group will make their way to the Sports & Wellness Hub, accompanied by a live samba band, where they will take part in an Olympic-style ceremony.
How to support
If you would like to support this event you would be very welcome! The route for the school group coming from Cannon Park will be available on the Flame of Friendship website by Friday 5 July, so you can step outside between 9.30-10am and cheer them on as they pass. Or, if you want to see more of it, you can join us at the Cryfield football pitch and watch the dance (10-10.20am) and/or stand along the path between the Observatory and the Sports & Wellness Hub (10.30-11am) and cheer on all the schools as they make their way to the Closing Ceremony.
The schedule for the morning can be found on the website using the first tab – “The Finale – Monday 8 July”
We’re just waiting to confirm a few more details then we’ll put every bit of information you need on the website, which if all goes to plan, should be by Monday 1 July.
