Arthur Vick fire update

Following the fire in Arthur Vick Residence Block 1 on the evening of Wednesday 19 November, the University continues to assess the damage caused by the fire and support students affected.

The vast majority of students should be able to return to their Arthur Vick accommodation by the start of term. However, a small number of students will be unable to return to Arthur Vick this academic year due to the extent of the damage and repairs required. We know that this news will be very disappointing, but unfortunately, due to the excessive damage, this is unavoidable.

All students whose accommodation was affected by the fire have been offered a range of support for the interim period, including alternative on campus accommodation at the equivalent cost or a reduced rate, as well as food vouchers, practical and wellbeing support, and clothing vouchers for those most impacted.

As always, the safety and wellbeing of our students remains our absolute priority.

If you have any concerns please contact the Employee Assistance ProgrammeLink opens in a new window (EAP), or you can access support through the Staff Wellbeing Hub. If students have any concerns please ask them to contact our wellbeing team through our  wellbeing portalLink opens in a new window or by calling 024 765 75570, or speak to their personal tutor.
