The Met OfficeLink opens in a new windowLink opens in a new window has issued an Amber Extreme Heat warning this week on Thursday 13 August.
We would like to repeat advice given earlier on this summer that we encourage you to take sensible precautions during this time. Please dress comfortably while maintaining dress that is appropriate for your role.
If you feel there is a particular location you could work from that day that would be more comfortable for you please discuss and agree this with your line manager in advance.
Additional risk control measures might be needed to prevent heat stress and heat stroke, and other longer-term health issues associated with prolonged exposure to intense UV light.
The UK Government has published general adviceLink opens in a new window on how to stay safe and well during the heatwave, which includes:
- Try to avoid direct sunlight, especially between 11am and 3pm when UV levels are highest.
- If you are going out during this time, cover up with suitable clothing, wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, seek shade and apply sunscreen liberally and re-apply frequently.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Keep your home cool by closing windows and curtains in rooms that face the sun.
