Team Warwick return from Alliance Sports Challenge 2013

TeamOur sporting students are back from the heat of Melbourne and the heat of competition against their rivals from Monash University.

The first ever Alliance Sports Challenge was closely fought but in the end it was the Monash team who triumphed 3-2 on their home turf to win the Alliance Trophy.

There were victories for Team Warwick in the swimming and soccer fives. Team Monash won the hockey sevens, water polo fives and fast net netball. Congratulations to everyone who took part.

During their two week stay, our students also gained an insight into Australian culture and life and shared learning and experiences with their Monash counterparts.

Natasha Cabral, University of Warwick Students' Union Sports Officer, says:

Despite the results, it was a brilliant day with all clubs watching and cheering each other on. It was also great to have our Registrar Ken Sloan supporting Team Warwick from the sidelines!

The clubs have not only been training and playing matches but have had the opportunity to experience the Aussie culture. This has included trips to Healsville Sanctuary, Melbourne Cricket Ground, Phillip Island, Melbourne Aquarium, St Kilda's Beach, Melbourne Victory Vs Perth Glory as well as an AFL (Aussie Rules) stadium tour and training session and finally a sports and career leadership session led by our joint sponsors PwC.

It has been a project an a half and I cannot believe we've flown from 32'C in Aus to -3'C in the UK!"
