Behind the scenes: Vishwesh Kulkarni

Our Open Days are a chance for thousands of visitors to get a taste of what it's like to live and study at Warwick.

Find out what's involved from the people who help to make it all happen.

Assistant Professor, School of Engineering
Role for Open Days: School of Engineering representative

My usual job involves...

I conduct research in systems biology, synthetic biology, and nonlinear optimization, and teach graduate/undergraduate modules. I am responsible for developing two new modules in control systems. My administrative duties include serving as the International Recruiter for India & Taiwan and serving on the 'Head Advisory Team' to identify and implement strategies to improve the impact of the School of Engineering.

For Open Day I...

With colleagues, we’ve put together the information visitors will need about our courses, and planned activities to help them have an enjoyable day. The School of Engineering student ambassadors and faculty members will be on hand to talk to the visitors about the School of Engineering educational programs, career prospects, and about life at the University of Warwick in general.

I really enjoy being involved with...

Meeting our visitors and understanding their expectations. I feel very strongly about higher education and about Warwick. It’s great to be able to share this care and enthusiasm with the visitors so that the prospective students have the right information at hand before they make the all-important decision on their undergraduate/graduate education.

Open Days are special because...

There’s a great atmosphere with people from across Warwick working together to support these events, and it’s a really good opportunity to get fresh perspectives from prospective students and their parents.

If there was one thing I could change about Open Days it would be...

The amount of hands on information on academic, translational, and recreational activities that gets delivered to the visitors. There’s so much to share and it would be good to do more, but it’s limited by the availability of staff and students, combined with the fact that open days are often on weekends.

What would you say to colleagues considering getting involved?

Open day is a fantastic vehicle to get to know our community, our prospective students and their families, and to get fresh perspectives on how to go about our work. Join in!

My top tip for our visitors

Plan, interact, and enjoy!
