Helen Morris: Marketing and Media Sales Co-ordinator

Name: Helen Morris

Job title: Marketing and Media sales Co-ordinator

Department: Warwick Students’ Union

Can you tell us a little bit about your role?

My role is diverse. I’m responsible for a wide range of marketing activities including relationship management / client development with internal and external bodies, obtaining sponsorship for an array of SU events such as the Freshers’ Fairs and Welcome Fair, generating income from media sales advertising and promoting the NUS Extra Card. I line manage 20 part-time student staff (the 'Street Team') that distribute publicity around the Halls and each year I recruit, train and manage the Freshers’ Supervisors and Freshers’ Helpers that help us deliver all the activities over the Freshers’ period.

And what’s your involvement at Arrivals Weekend?

Organising exhibitors and marketing activities for the Freshers’ Fair. Liaising with SU and University departments to ensure all their requirements for help are covered by the Freshers’ Helpers - such as support at the Sports and Societies Fair and directing new students into their Halls.

What’s the best bit about being involved in the weekend?

Seeing all your months of hard work culminating in a successful, enjoyable and inclusive couple of days, where the new students are excited about being at Warwick.

Are there any challenges?

The sheer volume of work that needs to be completed in a short period of time - from complex interactions between the Union and the University; upskilling temporary staff to work over the weekend effectively and professionally and providing a professional, efficient service to all new students under pressure of time and resource constraints.

Not many people know this about Arrivals Weekend, but …

...the team starts at 6.30am to prepare for arrivals from 9am. We welcome 3,700 students and their parents over the weekend.
