Nuala Clarke: Postgraduate Community Engagement Officer / Resident Tutor
Name: Nuala Clarke
Job Title: Postgraduate Community Engagement Officer / Resident Tutor
Department: The Library
Can you tell us a little bit about your role?
As Postgraduate Community Engagement Officer, I connect PGs to their postgrad community through social, cultural and academic events to ensure that they make the most of their time at Warwick.
As Resident Tutor, it's my role to support our students staying in on-campus accommodation and to signpost them to other support services that they may require. The Residential Life Team also maintains our campus communities, promotes interaction and plays a key part in student welfare.
And what's your involvement at Arrivals Weekend?
Over arrivals weekend, we welcome students to Warwick, sort them out with their keys, along with some useful information about campus, and help them get settled into their new accommodation. We're also around in case new students have any issues or questions.
What's the best bit about being involved in the weekend?
I really enjoy seeing new students meeting their flatmates. They're always really keen to start getting to know each other. Everyone is always really positive and friendly, even those that are a little shy.
Are there any challenges?
The 8am start on a Sunday is the biggest challenge for me...
Not many people know this about Arrivals Weekend but ...
It's kind of lovely; watching all the students arriving with their families, friends and guardians. Overlay a sentimental voice-over by Hugh Grant and uplifting score and you've got yourself a scene from a Richard Curtis film. Lots of proud smiles and heart-felt goodbyes.
