Call for Christmas Lecture Presenters
Would you like to take to the stage in the Butterworth Hall and share your passion for science with over a thousand school children, young people, families and adults?
The Warwick Christmas Lectures have been running at the university for 8 years and are looking for enthusiastic and engaging scientists to share their expertise with a family audience. You could be a PhD student, academic, or anywhere in between.
We invite you to submit an outline for a 20 minute Christmas Lecture. In particular we are looking for:
- Science that is engaging and interesting
- Some really exciting experiments and/or demonstrations that have a visual impact.
- Language that explains things clearly to those as young as 8 years old, but also engages the adults in the audience, and all the ages in between!
- Enthusiasm and passion for your subject
- A connection to Christmas (ideally)
- Opportunities for the audience to be called on stage to volunteer or to participate from their seats. One experiment should ideally include the whole audience.
Outlines should fill no more than one side of A4 paper and successful applicants will be invited to audition. Full versions of experiments will not be necessary. If successful there will be an award of £500 made by the Faculty of Science to cover costs of demonstrations. Further funds would be expected to come from public engagement/outreach within research grants or departmentally.
Applications must be sent to Ally Caldecote at a.caldecote@warwick.ac.uk and received no later than 5pm on Friday 17th May 2019.
