Congratulations to Parvez Islam as he takes up the role of Director of Environmental Sustainability. This is in addition to his position on Transport & Future Mobility.

Parvez has been the acting Head of Environmental Sustainability within the Estates department since June. This role will see him provide leadership and coordination to support the implementation of the wider Sustainability strategy for the University through the Environmental Sustainable and Social Action Group (ESSAG).

Parvez said:

"I am delighted to be providing leadership for the Environmental Sustainability & Future Mobility agenda for Estates and for Warwick, helping to steer the University towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future.

“COP 26 has highlighted the importance of everyone considering their environmental impact on the world and taking action to reduce it now. It is such an important global agenda that we must all collectively deliver on.

“With transport contributing well over 30% of the overall University carbon emissions, this is an important part of the wider environmental sustainability agenda.”

About Parvez

Since joining the Estates Department in 2019 Parvez has developed the transport team, who have been collectively instrumental in implementing the transport masterplan and bringing significant improvements across the University. These include “On Demand” bus services, the extension of the cycle hire scheme in conjunction with Transport for West Midlands, subsidised bus routes from Tile Hill station to campus, e-scooter trials and improvements to car parks and road networks across campus.

Before joining Warwick, Parvez has previously been responsible for transport and parking at London Luton Airport. He already has experience in developing and implementing innovative, sustainable transport solutions and has catered for the growth of the airport, ensuring it remained commercially viable. He has improved the journey of many customers and hopes to implement this knowledge and improve this journey for all visitors travelling to campus.
