Warwick celebrates HEA Fellows

Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) demonstrates a personal and institutional commitment to learning and teaching in higher education. It provides an opportunity to consolidate professional development and to reflect on practice.

Hear from some of our HEA Fellows on their recent achievements and see how you could begin - or continue - your fellowship journey.

Senior Fellowships

Senior Fellowship recognises collegiality and the influence on the teaching practice of others.

During 2020-21 we were delighted to welcome our 100th Senior Fellow: Dr Peter Gammon in the School of Engineering. Peter says:

"I was honoured to find I was Warwick’s 100th Senior Fellow of the HEA. Having previously achieved my Senior Membership of the IEEE in recognition of my Engineering work, I was motivated to apply for Senior Fellowship of HEA as a way to formally recognise my work in teaching and as Director of Graduate Studies. The evidence-based process and dialogic assessment helped me to identify impact on students and staff, reflect on my practice and develop it further.

I am grateful to the APP EXP team for their support of me personally, and for the work they are doing to nurture and to highlight the exemplary teaching and learning practise taking place across the University."

Currently there are 108 Senior Fellows at Warwick.

Building a learning community

"The process enabled me to articulate my values in relation to teaching and learning and recognise the value and importance of my work and leadership role."

Hear from Dr Rebecca Freeman (School of Life Sciences) on her experience of applying for Senior Fellowship.

Dr Letizia Gramaglia, Head of Academic Development, also talks about building a strong and active learning community at Warwick in the blog piece for Advance HE.

Principal Fellowships

Congratulations too to Dr Lucy Hammond (WMS) who has recently achieved recognition as a Principal Fellow of Advance HE. Principal Fellowships are awarded to highly experienced and/or senior staff with wide-ranging academic or academic-related strategic leadership responsibilities in connection with key aspects of teaching and supporting learning.

Lucy says:

"Achieving PFHEA has enabled me to step back and reflect on my leadership and impacts in learning and teaching. I am proud to be awarded this important marker of teaching recognition and I am grateful for the support of my mentor, referees and assessors."
