In Memoriam: Pat Rushton

The University is deeply saddened to hear of the recent and unexpected passing of Miss Patricia Rushton who worked at the University in a number of departments for 28 years.

When Pat first joined Warwick in 1978, she worked within Finance in several roles before moving to support the Warwick Graduates’ Association, under Joan Cole, in the early 90s. Pat’s main focus within the department was ensuring the details of the University’s alumni community were kept up-to-date on the database – it is thanks to all her hard work all those years ago that the University is able to be in contact with so many of its alumni across the world today.

As a member of what was then Development and Alumni Office, Pat participated in many alumni events, including the legendary Christmas Parties at the Students’ Union and the 25th anniversary reunions. Pat was very much a people person and loved meeting alumni and donors, not to mention the many students supported through the fundraising efforts of the department.

Since her retirement in 2006, Pat had become an active member of the Warwick Retired Staff Association and served on the scholarships panel, identifying those students who would receive awards funded by the association.

Mrs Sam Davies, former Director of Annual Giving & Legacies at Warwick said:

Pat loved working at the University and retiring was hard for her – however, she kept herself very busy with her regular art classes and lots of lovely lunches with friends.

Pat will be missed by everyone who knew her – once you met Pat, you could never forget her and her positive outlook on life. Her catchphrase was ‘Fill your boots’ – she certainly did that and encouraged everyone to do the same."

Her funeral will take place at Canley Crematorium, Charter Chapel at 10am on Saturday 25th February 2017.
