New Biffa waste collection service to support recycling on campus

Wasting no time to tackle our waste...

Warwick has entered into a new waste and recycling contract with Biffa Waste Services Ltd.

Between now and the end of term, we will see hundreds of large external bins being changed across campus.

What you need to know

If you make use of external bins, the service you receive will remain the same. Please be aware that there will be different coloured lids and signage on the new Biffa bins, and ensure the correct items are in the correct bins.

Good news for recycling and sustainability at Warwick

  • This new relationship with Biffa means we'll be able to split our waste more effectively to improve recycling rates, beginning with glass. Food waste recycling is planned for summer/autumn 2024 - the contents of these bins will be sent to an anaerobic digestion facility for conversion to energy.
  • Warwick will also be able to view recycling data via a new online Biffa portal. Biffa's collection vehicles - which run on hydrotreated vegetable oil, reducing emissions by up to 92 percent - will weigh bins as they are collected, logging the data immediately in the online system. This will provide a better breakdown of how much waste we are producing from each part of the campus.
  • Paul Norton, Biffa's General Manager for Coventry, Warwickshire and West Midlands, said: "This partnership is dedicated to fostering innovative recycling initiatives, demonstrating our shared commitment to environmental responsibility."
