Welcome to Matt Ferguson who has been appointed as Development Director

Matt will join us at the beginning of 2018 from King’s College London, where he has worked since 2007, most recently as Chief Development Officer. He succeeds Mary McGrath, who retires at the end of 2017 after 30 years at Warwick. In the last year, nearly 5000 individuals, organisations and companies made donations to Warwick, totalling more than £18million – the most charitable income we have recorded in a single year.

Matt will work with Ian Rowley and the development team to build on this success, with particular focus on new and ambitious international fundraising campaigns. He is regarded as one of the most successful principal gifts fundraisers in UK higher education: during his time at KCL, he individually raised £50 million, including the £20 million gift from Hong Kong based philanthropist Dickson Poon to create the eponymous School of Law at King's, and he led the development of the University’s Principal Gift Strategy and provided strategic advice to the World questions|King's answers campaign board, chaired by the Rt. Hon Sir John Major.

He began his career working for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind and as Development Office for the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Alberta, Canada. He has been a Trustee of the Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity since 2016, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts.

Stuart Croft, Vice Chancellor said,

I am delighted that Matt is joining the Warwick community. We have an excellent story to tell in order to build relationships with the top philanthropists in the world, and I look forward to working with Matt to do that.”
