The University is pleased to announce that Professor Christina Hughes has been appointed to the role of Pro-Vice-Chancellor.

In accordance with Ordinance 3, the Committee on the Appointment of Pro-Vice-Chancellors carried out and completed its recruitment process and recommended that Professor Christina Hughes be appointed for a period of 5 years. The University Council approved the recommendation yesterday.

Vice-Chancellor Nigel Thrift said:

Christina is a highly respected academic and member of our University community, having expertly Chaired the Department of Sociology concurrently with the Faculty of Social Sciences for 3 years. She will be a great addition to the Senior Management Team and I look forward to working with her."

Update: 24/05/2012

Further to the Council's appointment of Professor Christina Hughes as a Pro-Vice-Chancellor it has been confirmed that Christina will take up this role on a partial basis from 1 June 2012. This will enable continuity in the specific areas of Widening Participation, Access and Development & Alumni Relations following Professor Margot Finn's move to UCL in the Summer. Christina will continue to serve as Chair of the Faculty of Social Sciences until 31 August 2012 alongside these Pro-Vice-Chancellor responsibilities. The Vice-Chancellor will confirm the details of portfolios for all Pro-Vice-Chancellors in the Summer.
