Professor Lorenzo Frigerio to take up position of Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education)

Professor Lorenzo Frigerio has been appointed as the new Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education), taking over from Professor Chris Hughes, who leaves the post on 31 July 2023.

Lorenzo has been the Vice-Provost and Chair of the Board for the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Medicine for almost two years and was previously Head of the School of Life Sciences (SLS).

Lorenzo is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and won a Warwick Award for Teaching Excellence in 2016, when he was Director of Education in SLS. He is an active researcher, with internationally recognised expertise in plant cell biology.

In his new role as Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Lorenzo will provide academic leadership across the University, with a responsibility for maintaining and enhancing world-class standards of teaching and learning across the University.

Commenting on his appointment, Lorenzo said:

“I’m honoured to take up this important leadership role, and am hugely excited by the prospect of working closely with so many talented and dedicated colleagues.

My role will be focused on ensuring our academics continue to flourish in their careers and help build on our reputation as one of the best teaching environments in the world.”

Warwick’s Vice-Chancellor, Stuart Croft, said:

“I’m looking forward to welcoming Lorenzo into this new role at the beginning of August. He brings with him a wealth of achievements in both research and education, as well as a strong track record for academic leadership at the University.

I’d also like to thank Chris Hughes for his time in post and wish him the very best for his future career. Chris's contribution to Warwick has been invaluable.”

Chris will take some research leave with an invited fellowship at a University of Oxford research institute and return fully to his work as a professor in the Department of Politics and International Studies at Warwick.
