National Student Survey 2025

The UK’s largest student survey launches on 3 February, and we need your support to encourage our final-year undergraduates to take part.

Eligible students will receive an invitation to take part from the Pro-Vice-Chancellor on Monday 3 February and will receive a personalised link from Ipsos Mori (who run the survey independently) on Thursday 6 February. Results will be published in Summer 2025.

How the results enhance the student experience

The results have informed a range of enhancements to the student experience, both departmentally, such as better study spaces, providing initial module feedback earlier, and better assessment guidance and feedback.

National Student Survey 2024 questions

You can read our written briefing for all staff and view the questions that students will be asked in 2025.

Warwick did not include any optional banks of questions this year, but has opted for two bespoke questions to retain some institutional overall satisfaction indicators:

  • I would recommend the University to future students. (Scale question)
  • What is the one thing we could have done to improve your overall experience? (Open question)

In addition this year, following the completion of the NSS, all final year students nationally will be given the option of completing the Sexual Misconduct Survey (SMS). This survey is entirely optional, and students do not have to take part or answer any questions they wish not to answer.

Get involved

The most persuasive messages come from the staff that students already know. With that in mind, we are asking colleagues in academic and professional service departments to raise awareness of the NSS and emphasise the importance of student feedback, while being careful not to compromise the anonymity of the survey or influence students’ responses (we have clear guidance on this).

Each department with eligible students has lead colleagues organising efforts to promote the survey in-person and through departmental communication channels, which will complement the on-campus campaign.

A particularly valuable strategy for encouraging participation is to include our lecture slides at the beginning or end of a teaching session. Other efforts may include adding mentions of the NSS in departmental communications with students, utilising our email and social media templates, and reminding students to fill out the survey in interactive sessions.

About the National Student Survey

The National Student Survey is the UK’s largest and most established survey of higher education students. It provides us with insights into the views of our final-year undergraduates to help us improve the quality of teaching and learning and the wider student experience.

We are aiming for a 70% overall response rate this year, with a departmental response rate of 65%, which will provide us with a strong data set to enhance the student learning experience.
