Professor Mike Shipman stepping down
Professor Mike Shipman is stepping down from his role as Pro-Vice Chancellor (International) to take up a new position as Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost of Durham University in August.
Mike has successfully led Warwick’s international strategy and development for many years, establishing highly effective partnerships with universities in Australia, Africa, Europe and North America.
Last year, he was also instrumental in signing an agreement with Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics (NURE), Ukraine, demonstrating our support for Ukrainian academics and students following the Russian invasion.
He joined Warwick nearly 20 years ago and has published over 100 research papers. Mike was previously Chair of the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Medicine at Warwick and also served as Head of Department.
Commenting on Mike’s new role, Vice Chancellor Stuart Croft said:
“I’m so pleased for Mike, and I have no doubt whatsoever that he will make an outstanding Provost at Durham.
“But we’ll also be very sad to see him go. He will be greatly missed by colleagues not only at Warwick but all around the globe, who have had the joy of working with him through the partnerships and relationships he has built up patiently over many years.
“He’s not only an outstanding academic and leader, but also a friend and a much-valued colleague to so many of us. We all wish him well in the next chapter of his career.”
