Prof Caroline Meyer vlog: Transcript

Prof Caroline Meyer: So being Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research at the University of Warwick is an absolute privilege.

Research is one of our core missions alongside our amazing teaching. That's why we're all here to deliver awesome teaching and awesome research.

My role really involves being a member of the University Executive Board.

So I work alongside Stuart and the other UEB members to essentially run the University. But my part in that is really to develop and deliver the research strategy.

So I'm really passionate about trying to make Warwickand the broader UK the place to be to do research. I really want us to work on our research culture and make the experience of being a researcher or a person who supports research as good as it can possibly be. It's really important that the UK attracts and retains the best global talent. And at Warwick, we've got lots of talent, really at that very highest level already.

So we recently met with each department to discuss their research and members of the Research Executive will soon be doing deep dives into the impact of our work. The Research Executive and the Research Culture team are also working closely with the Warwick Transformation team to really make improvements to the way in which we support research. So I'd be really grateful to colleagues if they can embrace this process and really help us to deliver sustained improvements.

As well as being Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research, I'm also a Professor of Psychology at Warwick Medical School, and I remain committed to my area of expertise, which is eating disorders, really trying to improve our understanding and treatment of these devastating conditions.

So outside of work, as well as having a really close family that I'm devoted to, I do pursue quite a few activities. You'll often find me on my allotment with my little dog, digging and planting things. And I've recently started pottery classes, but the thing I'm most passionate about is my connection with an organisation called Side By Side, which I've been a member for about 10 years.

Side By Side is dance and theatre company for adults with learning disabilities and people without. And we rehearse together every week, all year to put on a show at the Royal Spa Centre in Leamington, in November. And Side By Side is just such a wonderful organisation, there's a real focus on people's abilities and what they can do rather than the limitations they have, and it's just a wonderful thing to be part of.
