Reinvention: an International Journal of Undergraduate Research

One of the Monash Warwick Alliance’s flagship undergraduate activities, the peer-reviewed journal Reinvention, has recently published its latest edition along with announcing a new editorial team.

The bi-annual undergraduate journal was established at Warwick in 2007. Under the Alliance, Monash University became partners in the journal in 2012, which is now produced, edited and managed by students from both universities.

Reinvention welcomes articles from undergraduate students around the world. For the first time, the latest edition includes a paper from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, along with papers from students from Monash and across the UK.The most recent issue explores a wide range of topics, from the right to privacy when using social media to the social hubs created by public toilets in Ancient Rome.

In changes to the editorial team, Justine Vincin has stepped down as Chief Editor and Tim Ziegler has been promoted to the role. Both students are from Monash. Mr Ziegler, who joined the journal as an Assistant Editor in June 2013, said it provided undergraduate contributors with a realistic experience of academic publishing. Mr Ziegler explained:

For most contributors it’s their first foray into academic publishing so it’s important that we offer guidance and constructive feedback throughout the process, even if their paper isn’t chosen for publication. Working on the editorial team is not only interesting, but we also learn tangible publishing skills that can help when seeking employment after graduating.

The previous Chief Editor, Justine Vincin, was a driving force behind Monash University’s success in partnering with Warwick on Reinvention, so I hope to build on her work and evolve the journal from a student-led project to a professional entity.”

In other changes to the editorial team, Joshua Marlow, Taarika Bangalore and Kirsten Carlaw from Monash have been appointed Assistant Editors. From Warwick, Joe Grimwade and Solene van der Wielen join as Assistant Editors.

Reinvention: an International Journal of Undergraduate Research is supported by the Monash Warwick Alliance, which responds to 21st century challenges that are global in scale and require international cooperation and new thinking.
