Beware phone scam targeting international students

A number of UK universities, including Warwick, are reporting that some students have been victims of telephone fraud from someone claiming to be from the UK Border Agency (UKBA).

If you are telephoned by someone claiming to be from UKBA instructing you:

  • to give your personal details - such as passport or visa/CSA information; or
  • to pay money and threatening deportation if you don’t pay

you should not pay any money or give any personal details to them. Instead, immediately contact the University's International Office on 024 7652 3706 or via email.

The UKBA will never contact you in this manner. No agency, whether the Home Office, the Police, UKBA or any other organisation, will legitimately ask you to pay money in this way to avoid being deported.
