Warwick in London - pre university tasters

One of the first activities undertaken by Warwick in London has been the creation and delivery of Pre University Tasters for students aged 16-18 considering Higher Education. The 3 day long courses have been devised for students to sample university level teaching, gain new knowledge and skills and make new friends in a dynamic and supportive academic environment. Sessions incorporate introductions to new subject areas not taught on the A level curriculum, skills sessions and an Alumni talk.

For Warwick, they are a great way for us to showcase our teaching and are also proving to be a mechanism for recruitment, outreach and widening participation. So far we have delivered two courses in Economics in February (to 9 students) and at Easter (to 38 students) with the courses being delivered in the school holidays and proving very popular. The third course will begin on Wednesday this week during half term with a full house of 36 students.

We are also delighted to be contributing to outreach activity in London with around 1/3 of students coming from non-traditional backgrounds.

Feedback to date has been excellent with one student commenting:

The pre-university course was very insightful and I thoroughly enjoyed participating in all the engaging activities that we had. Thank you very much for having me there I had a really good few days.” Sairam Venkat.
