Staff reflection on supporting students during self-isolation

Hear from Lisa Hadfield, Business Development Manager for Warwick Conferences, as she reflects on her work to support the Wellbeing Support Services team with the helpline for students who are self-isolating, or have other Covid-related queries or concerns.

Supporting students

The safety and wellbeing of the community continues to be the University’s foremost priority, and a number of staff have been reassigned from other activities to support this. They receive leadership, guidance and support from wellbeing professionals to help them deliver this service.

Lisa says:

“As Business Development Manager for Warwick Conferences, my role is mainly focused on building relationships and seeking new business opportunities with new & existing clients. Day to day activities include account review meetings, sales presentations, regular marketing communications, social media activity, attending exhibitions & networking events, research and telesales.

I’m currently working with the wellbeing team, supporting the wellbeing of our campus community during the Covid-19 pandemic. I’ve been provided with training and support to know how to work with the students and how to escalate things if I think they need particular help.

Day to day I offer support and guidance to our students and staff who are in isolation, including those who have received a positive test. We offer support by listening and offering guidance on a range of different topics from practical advice to helping people who may need help on managing their mental health and wellbeing day to day.

I’m so proud to work for a University that has so many support resources in place for both students and staff. Helping people is in my DNA (as it is for most people who work in the events industry) and I’m personally gaining a lot out of this experience, as well as learning new skills along the way.”
