Warwick in London are busy preparing for the 2019 intake of prospective students for this year’s Pre-University Summer School. Piloted successfully for the first time in 2018 with a 100% recommendation, the summer school is a ten-night fully inclusive programme for 16-18 year olds, delivered on the Warwick campus with a weekend in London.

The summer school gives attending students a real taste of life at university with a combination of academic study and personal skills development, advice on applying for university and a vibrant social and cultural programme.

Programme

Students chose from a course in Economics and Finance or A Taste of Social Sciences which is an exciting mix of Philosophy, Law, Psychology, Liberal Arts and Education Studies. Trips include a visit to Oxford and two nights in London where students will visit the Houses of Parliament and enjoy the London Eye, River Cruise and West End show as well as enjoying an industry visit related to their course. Students on the Economics stream will visit BNP Paribas in Marylebone where we have many Warwick Alumni. Students on the ‘Taste of Social Sciences’ stream will visit the Royal Courts of Justice for a workshop. On campus students will enjoy formal dinners, disco and quiz night.

Student ambassadors

One of the main highlights of the programme is our Warwick student ambassadors. We have recruited ten Warwick students to act as mentors to students throughout the programme and they will live alongside the summer school students for the duration of the programme providing a first-hand insight into life at Warwick. Last year, this was one of the students’ favourite elements of the summer school. This has been a great opportunity for some of our Warwick students to also benefit from a paid summer opportunity and we received hundreds of applications for the post.
