Around 2,000 staff, students and our wider community joined in the World Cup celebrations yesterday to watch the England v Uruquay match on the big screen. The atmosphere, throughout the evening, as with the other matches, was fantastic with students also celebrating the end of exams in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere - even stopping to recycle litter as they they left the Piazza after the match!
The social media conversations around the screen with pictures being shown on the big screen during breaks even resulted in #bigscreenpiazza trending in the UK last night.
Matches for the World Cup continue over the weekend and into next week. You can see the schedule for the Big Screen Piazza online.
And if you have any questions about the big screen, please contact the team on bigscreen at warwick dot ac dot uk You can continue to tweet your photos and comments to #bigscreenpiazza and we'll try and feature them on the screen.
These events are only possible with the huge support from all departments around campus: estates in returning the Piazza to a pristine condition ready for open day, security colleagues keeping everyone safe and providing support. Warwick Arts Centre for managing the event space and co-ordinating departments, the Students' Union staff and Warwick Retail for providing services and clear up support after the matches, ITS colleagues and Marketing for keeping the screen running and providing the twitter feed and webcam activities and all of the staff, students and visitors who provided a fantastic audience.
