Facilities for Students Staying on Campus 2011

The majority of student services (including all departments) will be closed over the Christmas period. The Students' Union will be closed from Friday 23 December 2011 to Tuesday 3 January 2012.

However, those of you who will be staying on campus have not been forgotten. The Chaplaincy will remain open throughout the Christmas holidays from 8:30am to 10.30pm every day (on swipe card access). Please feel free to use this as a place to meet up with other students in a warm, friendly environment.

International Office communications

The International Office have produced a helpful newsletter for students staying on campus over Christmas, which can be downloaded from the International Office website.

A Christmas forum has also been set up for any students who are staying on campus over Christmas. Students are free to use the forum to contact other students who are staying on campus over Christmas and the International Office may also use it to communicate any relevant information, such as updates on what services or events are available.

Christmas Supper

There will be a Christmas Supper on Tuesday 20 December, open to any Warwick student (home or international). Tickets are limited, and must be booked in advance. Tickets are on sale from the International Office website.

Warwick Retail have provided details of the opening times of their various outlets over the Christmas vacation period 2011.

The Library

The Library will close at midnight on Thursday 22 December 2011 and re-open from 11:30am until 6pm on the following days:

Wednesday 28 December: 11:30am-6pm (self-service only)
Thursday 29 December: 11:30am-6pm (self-service only)
Friday 30 December: 11:30am-6pm (self-service only)
Saturday 31 December: 11:30am-6pm (self-service only)
Sunday 1 January CLOSED
Monday 2 January CLOSED

The Library will re-open as normal on Tuesday 3 January 2012 at 08:30am.

Alternative facilities will be available within the Learning Grid.

The Learning Grid

The Learning Grid will be closed from 6pm on Saturday 24 December 2011 to 7am on Monday 26 December 2011.

Staffing will be 12 noon to 6pm on the other days of the vacation period. Normal hours resume from Monday 9 January 2012.

The Health Centre

The Health Centre will close at 5pm on Friday 23 December 2011 and reopen at 9am on Tuesday 3 January 2012.

During this time the main surgeries will be open as follows:

Allesley Park - patients registered with PINK practice (2 Whitaker Road, Allesley Park, Coventry, CV5 9JE)

Out of hours service will run during closed times.

Bus services

The University Bus Services operated by Travel De Courcey will not operate during the Christmas and New Year period from Friday 23 December 2011 until Tuesday 3 January 2012. Other local bus services, such as the Unirider operated by Stagecoach and the number 12 operated by National Express Coventry, will operate a reduced service on some dates during the festive season.

Further information

Shuttle Bus

During the Christmas Period, the Shuttle Bus will not be running on the following dates:

Friday 23 December 2011 – Monday 2 January 2012.

The service will resume on the evening of Tuesday 3 January 2012.

However, during this period Security is able to provide an escort on campus to any individual who feels vulnerable. Individuals should telephone Security (on 024 7652 2083, or on extension 22083 from an internal phone), to request an escort, allowing a short time to organise this. If a vehicle is not available an escort will be provided on foot.

Post Collection

The Post Room will close at 12pm on Thursday 22 December 2011 and re-open on Tuesday 3 January 2012.

The Sports Centre on main campus will be open as follows:

The Tennis Centre on Westwood campus will be open as follows:

Between Tuesday 27 December and Saturday 31 December, the Tennis Centre is open, but all courts are fully booked.

The Westwood Games Hall and facilities will be closed from Thursday 22 December to Monday 2 January inclusive.

The Arts Centre

The Arts Centre will be open throughout the Christmas period, except for Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. For further information please visit the Arts Centre website.

Music Centre Practice Rooms

The Music Centre Practice Rooms will be open whenever the Arts Centre is open (i.e. every day apart from Christmas Day and New Year’s Day). Rooms 1 and 8 will not be available during this period however.

Emergencies

In the event of an emergency requiring ambulance, police or fire brigade call 999 from an internal telephone.

If you use a mobile to call for an emergency service, you should also then dial 024 76 5 22222. This alerts University security and will enable the emergency vehicle to be speedily escorted to where it is required on the campus.
