Brief Encounter - Trevor Hawkes
Trevor Hawkes is based in Mathematics and is currently working on a computer-aided assessment project. As an Emeritus Reader in Mathematics, he also undertakes some teaching within the Dept, along with consulting for eLab.
Obituary: Henry Rees - 1916 - 2006
With the death of Dr Henry Rees on 5 February, the last member of the group of local citizens and industrialists who had campaigned for a university in Coventry in the 1950s has left the scene. Dr Rees was an LSE graduate in Geography from before the War who took a PhD in the 1950s, by which time he was a lecturer at Coventry Technical College (at this time the nearest universities were Birmingham and Oxford).
Young Investigator Awards for WMS Staff
Dr Manos Karteris and Denijela Markovic, of Warwick Medical School's Endocrinology and Metabolism Research Group, have received Young Investigator's Awards from the European Federation of Endocrine Societies (EFES) for the quality of their research abstracts at the European Congress of Endocrinology.
Warwick Business School Professors Awarded Fellowships
Professors Howard Thomas, John Benington, Jean Hartley and Colin Crouch, of Warwick Business School, have been named Fellows of the National School of Government's Sunningdale Institute. The Institute offers development to government and public service organisations on operational and delivery issues.
Sir Nick Scheele - President of Coventry Transport Museum
Sir Nick Scheele, University Chancellor, has taken up the role of the first ever president of Coventry's Transport Museum. The museum is one of the most-visited tourist attractions in Coventry and is undergoing a £13 million revamp.
