Women Race for Life
Women from across the University recently ran 5K for a good cause. A number of University teams took part in Cancer Research's Race for Life held in Coventry Memorial Park on Sunday 12 June. The Purchasing Office, WMG and a number of students all took part in the female-only race to raise cash to fund urgent cancer research. Donations are still rolling in and to date over £2,000 has been raised by the University.
Chemistry Academic Secures EPSRC funding for new centre of excellence.
Dr Stuart Mackenzie, of the Department of Chemistry, has been awarded one of the country's few EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council ) research fellowships - with an additional award to provide a centre of excellence
Promotion for Sir Gus
Former Warwick Alumnus and current Permanent Secretary to the Treasury, Sir Gus O' Donnell, has been appointed as Cabinet Secretary in succession to Sir Andrew Turnbull KCB CVO. Sir Gus will take over as the prime minister's key official this summer when Sir Andrew is due to retire.
Brian Wood-Scawen - Appointment
Dr Brian Woods-Scawen, lay member of Council, has been appointed as an independent member of the Department of Trade and Industry's Executive Board. The board oversees the Government Department's governance and strategy.
Success for Warwick Conferences
Graham Crump, Group Executive Chef at Warwick Conferences, has been elected Chairman of the Midlands Association of Chefs (MAC) for a two-year term.
James Hornby, Trainee Chef from Warwick Conferences, has won a bronze medal in the Junior Welsh Lamb live theatre class at the Welsh International Salon Culinaire.
