Warwick Graduate Alex Linley to Swim Llyn Llydlaw for Charity

Professor Alex Linley, who completed his PhD in Psychology at Warwick is preparing to swim across Llyn Llydaw, the UK's coldest lake in aid of the Children's Heart Appeal at the Birmingham Children's Hospital.

The University is supporting Alex by allowing him to use ice baths for acclimatisation to the cold. Andrew Holbrook of Tudor Physiotherapy (based at Warwick) is offering advice and support on exposure to extreme cold.

Alex now works for the Centre of Applied Positive Psychology (CAPP) in the Science Park, who are also supporting his appeal.

Alex was inspired to swim the lake, which is 1,000 metres up Mount Snowdon and can reach lows of -7° Centigrade, after the Birmingham Children's Hospital saved the life of his daughter who was diagnosed with a serious heart condition at 13 months old. He hopes to raise £20,000 for the charity.
