Dr James (Jim) Shields - Stanley Hoffmann Award

Dr Jim Shields

Congratulations to Dr Jim Shields, from the Department of French Studies, who has won the American Political Science Association's Stanley Hoffmann Award for the best article on French politics across anglophone political science in 2005 and 2006. Dr Shields received the award for his article 'Political Representation in France: A Crisis of Democracy?' (Parliamentary Affairs, 59:1, 2006). This highly prestigious biennial award is made by the world's leading political science association and against world-wide competition (223 articles from 112 journals were considered by the selection committee, chaired by Professor Hoffmann, from Harvard and Sciences-Po in Paris).

The award, which carries a prize of $2,000, was presented at the APSA conference in Chicago on 31 August 2007. Dr Shields is the first holder, as it is a newly inaugurated award funded by Sciences-Po.
