The University regrets to announce that Dr Hassan Nakhai, a Marie Curie postdoctoral research fellow in the School of Life Sciences, died in Germany on Tuesday 21 December 2010 during a course of treatment for an illness.

Dr. Michael Khan Associate Professor of Medicine in the Biomedical Research Institute in the School of Life Sciences said:

"Hassan was an outstanding and dedicated scientist, who will be greatly missed by his colleagues. Throughout his career he has consistently published at the highest level and been a source of support and inspiration to the more junior scientists and students who have had the good fortune to work with him. He leaves behind his wife, Lidia, and a large number of colleagues who will cherish their memories of him."
