Warwick's Young Tennis Team Crowned County Champions

Young Tennis Players on the Warwick teams

Warwick's young tennis teams were successful at the Aegon Classic at Edgbaston, a tournament for under 10s in Warwickshire. All the teams involved train at the University, managed by inspire2coach.

Mini Tennis Classic

Warwick's under 9s and under 10s boys teams both took first place in the mini tennis classic event at Edgbaston, a tournament for young tennis players in Warwickshire.

The under 9s boys beat Tamworth 2-1, Rugby 3-0, and, after a tough match, defeated Blossomfield 2-1. The under 10s boys won 3-0 against both Leamington and Solihull Arden, and won against Esporta 2-1. This meant that both teams were crowned county champions for Warwickshire.

The under 9s and under 10s girls teams both finished in second place. After beating Leamington 3-0 and Bloomfield 2-1, the under 9s girls team lost in the decider against Edgbaston Priory 2-1. The under 10s girls team beat Blossomfield 2-1, but lost 2-1 to Solihull Arden in the deciding match.

Performance Challenge

In the Performance Challenge event, Warwick came 2nd overall.

The Warwick under 9 team won 3-1 against Shipston and 3-1 against Esporta, but lost to Edgbaston Priory on points after the match was tied 2-2. They then played off against Leamington for third and fourth place, this time winning on points after the match was tied 2-2.

The next day the under 10 team beat both Esporta and Leamington 4-0 and drew 2-2 with Solihull Arden. They then played for 1st and 2nd place against Edgbaston Priory. The game was drawn 2-2, and unfortunately the team came second based on number of games won.

With the results from both days combined, Warwick came 2nd behind Edgbaston Priory, which is several places up from the 5th place finish the team had last year.
