Roberta Wooldridge Smith Named Director of Careers

Roberta Wooldridge-SmithThe University has announced that the new Director of the Careers Service will be Roberta Wooldridge Smith.

Roberta has worked at the University for over eight years in a variety of roles including posts based in the Centre for Academic Practice, Personnel Office, Deputy Registrar's Office and Academic Registrar's Office.

In her most recent role in Teaching Quality, Roberta led the University through its QAA Institutional Audit in March 2004 and has been responsible for oversight of a range of quality assurance and enhancement related areas including collaborative provision, e-Learning and skills development.

Roberta was also involved in the University's submissions to HEFCE for the recently-awarded Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.

Roberta brings to the Careers Service several years' experience in the Quality role, and prior to that as a Faculty Secretary, of working with academic staff in departments on learning and teaching matters, including departmental curriculum development and review.

She has also, through involvement in projects relating to skills development and Personal Development Planning, developed an understanding of the ways in which study at Warwick develops students' capabilities as preparation for further study and employment.

These areas are particularly relevant to the challenges of the new role which will draw on Roberta's knowledge of Warwick curricula and inform liaison with employers about the nature of the student experience and the contribution to be made by Warwick students to the marketplace.

Whilst at Warwick, Roberta has deliberately developed a career as a generalist administrator, moving between quite disparate areas in order to gain a broad overview of many aspects of the University's administration. She now looks forward to putting to good use, in an environment traditionally led by a careers guidance professional, skills such as strategic development, bidding for external income, IT systems implementation and the delivery of student-facing services.

Roberta will take up her new post on a part-time basis from 7 February, pending appointment of a successor in the Teaching Quality office. She will move to Careers on a full-time basis from the start of the Easter vacation 2005.
