Professors Sebastian van Strien and Mark Pollicott - Leverhulme Fellowships
First published in CommUnicate issue 316.
Professors Sebastian van Strien and Mark Pollicott have been awarded Royal Society Leverhulme Trust Senior Research Fellowships for 2007/08.
Professor van Strien will study the Palis conjecture in dimension one. Work on the Palis conjecture aims to describe and predict whatever is predictable for chaotic systems such as weather.
Professor Pollicott will study Applications of Thermodynamic Formalism to Lyapunov Exponents, and related topics. Ergodic theory is the study of ergodic transformations – a branch of chaos theory.
