Sian Hughes shortlisted for Aldeburgh First Collection Poetry Prize

MA Writing student Sian Hughes has been included in the shortlist for the prestigious Aldeburgh First Collection Prize 2009. Nominated for her work "The Missing", she joins just 5 poets selected out of a record 92 entrants.

The result will be announced on Saturday 7 November during the 21st Aldeburgh Poetry Festival. The winner will receive a cash prize of £3,000, a week's writing time on the Suffolk coast and an invitation to read at the 2010 Aldeburgh Poetry Festival. Both Peter Blegvad and Professor David Morley of the Department of English will be reading at the festival.

This is the second major award that "The Missing" has been shortlisted for this year, the other being the Forward Prize for Poetry.
