Enrico Galvani - Erasmus/Socrates Exchange Student

It is with great sadness that we report the sudden and tragic death of Mr Enrico Galvani, an Erasmus Socrates exchange student, who joined the University recently from the University of Urbino in Italy.

Enrico died in residence on the morning of 28 September 2008. Mr Galvani’s family have been notified and the University has made arrangements to offer them support. Officials have confirmed that there are no contributing circumstances regarding Mr Galvani’s sudden death which should concern any members of the University community.

University staff and support professionals are working to support those students who were friends of Enrico and were living in residence with him. Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nigel Thrift said:
"The sudden and tragic death of any student brings great sadness to everyone in the community. That Enrico’s death has come so quickly after he had joined the Warwick community only serves to make such sadness more pronounced. Our condolences go to Enrico’s family and friends, as well as colleagues at the University of Urbino, as they come to terms with this tragedy and their loss."

Anyone affected by this sad situation and who wishes to speak to someone at this time should be aware that there are a number of support services available. The Student Support Services site gives more details at http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/campusaffairs/student-support-services/
