Following the success of Professor Paul Smith's application to the Leverhulme Trust the History of Art department are delighted to welcome Professor Karen Lang from the University of Southern California as a Leverhulme Visiting Professor. Karen is author of Chaos and Cosmos, a study of the 'conceptual foundations' of her discipline, and of the impact of Kantian aesthetics on Modernism over its longue durée.
Karen is also editor of the leading journal, Art Bulletin. The primary aim of her visit is to develop the idea of what she calls ‘an aesthetic way of knowing’. Throughout February and March a series of events will take place across the Faculty including a series of four Leverhulme Lectures (details t.b.a.), seminars in collaboration with German and Philosophy, and more informal events in the host department, History of Art – which warmly welcomes the participation of all colleagues.
