Professor Mark Achtman elected to the Norwegian Academy

achtmanProfessor Mark Achtman,WMS, Microbiology and Infection, has been elected a foreign member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters and attended their annual meeting to celebrate this appointment with other members in May 2014.

The Norwegian Academy is one of the august interdisciplinary European academies, it's main purpose is to support the advancement of science and scholarship in Norway.

The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters has 250 seats for Norwegian members and 160 seats for foreign members. A seat becomes vacant by death or when a member turns 70. Members over 70 years of age keep all their rights and are still full members. The Academy is divided into two divisions, one for the natural sciences and one for the humanities and social sciences.
