Warwick colleagues awarded Birthday Honours

Congratulations to Warwick colleagues recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list 2014.

Professor Nick Crafts has been awarded a CBE for services to Economics. Professor Charles Sheppard receives an OBE for services to environmental conservations in the British Indian Ocean Territory.

Professor Nick CraftsNick is Professor of Economic History and director of the ESRC Research Centre on Competitive Advantage in the Global Economy (CAGE). His main fields of research interest are the comparative economic performance of European economies and the economic geography of industrialisation.

Nick said that it was an honour that reflected the great contribution made by everyone associated with CAGE.

Professor Charles SheppardCharles, a professor in the School of Life Sciences, is also Chairman of the Chagos Conservation Trust, and works for a range of UN, Governmental and aid agencies in tropical marine and coastal development issues.

His award recognises nearly 40 years of marine environmental and climate research in the Chagos Archipelago.

Charles commented

Conservation is increasingly important in tropical regions for maintaining biodiversity and improving food security, and it is fortunate Britain can help in great measure through conservation work in its Territories.

Christine Fyfe, formerly Deputy Librarian at Warwick, has been awarded an MBE, for services to Higher Education.
