Giving back to the community
About 35 members of Student Careers and Skills staff went to Coombe Abbey this month for a second year of staff volunteering to see the results of last year’s onslaughts on the ragwort and Himalayan balsam, and to continue their quest to help Coombe Abbey to eradicate these invasive plants. They worked the morning battling stinging nettles, a bog and aggressive brambles before being defeated by a gang of angry hornets and retreating back to the lawns in front of the Abbey for a well-deserved lunch with home-made cakes and biscuits.
