EU Commissioner to Deliver Public Lecture at Warwick

Dr Janez Potočnik, the EU Commissioner for Science and Research, is visiting Warwick on 20 September 2007. He’ll be giving a public lecture on ‘The Role of Science and Research in a Knowledge Based Society’.

Janez Potočnik, European Commissioner for Science and ResearchThe Vice Chancellor invites members of the university community to attend Dr Potočnik's lecture to be presented at 16:30 in MS01 in the Mathematics Institute, Zeeman Building on the main Warwick campus. Including an opportunity to ask Dr Potočnik questions, the event will close at 17:30.

As European Commissioner for Science and Research, Dr Potočnik is responsible for two Commission Departments - the Directorate-General for Research and the Joint Research Centre. The first, DG Research, develops European Union policy in the field of research and technological development and is responsible for the Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP7).

His second responsibility, The Joint Research Centre (JRC), provides the EU with an independent scientific and technical service in the conception, development, and implementation and monitoring of EU policies in science and technology.
