Alumni day 2013: The Happiness Effect

Alumni Day 2013 bannerIn May 2013 over 700 Warwick Alumni returned to campus for Alumni Day 2013. Taking place on Saturday May 18, this year’s event differed from previous with the day’s activities focusing on the theme of ‘Happiness’.

The day brought together some fascinating speakers including world renowned behavioural economist and award-winning Financial Times columnist Tim Harford; University of Warwick Professor of Economics Andrew Oswald and Michelle Hawkins, Head of Happiness at The Flying Dodo.

The 2013 Alumni Day explored a number of happiness inspired topics, from architecturally motivated happiness, to the relationship between bodily health and mental wellbeing and how we can take the leap to a healthier and happier life.

There was also a range of practical workshops offering alumni the opportunity to learn tips and techniques to experiencing increased happiness, as well as opportunities to mix with fellow alums.

  • Nick Powdthavee (MSc Economics 2000-02), Professorial Research Fellow at the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economics and Social Research
  • Andrew Clark (BA Economics 1982-85), CNRS Research Professor at the Paris School of Economics
  • Louise Hardy (BSc Civil Engineering 1985-88), Infrastructure Director for the Delivery Partner to the Olympic Delivery Authority for the design and construction of the Olympic Games
  • Elizabeth Burton, Professor of Sustainable Building Design and Wellbeing at the University of Warwick
  • Philip Hill (BA Psychology and Philosophy 1980-83)
  • Sharon Neal, Learning and Development Manager at the University of Warwick
  • Susan Rogers (BA Psychology 1976-79)
