Summer Season 2013 at Warwick Arts Centre
Warwick Arts Centre have released their summer schedule for 2013 and it's packed full of events and acts from some of the best artists working in the UK today.
This season, collaborations include a co-commission of acclaimed theatre company Complicite’s first show for young people, Lionboy, and Caroline Horton returns with her show Mess – a critical smash at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, winning the Stage Award for Best Ensemble.
The Summer season will also see the launch of a new series of Free & Live events. On the Couch finds a member of the Arts Centre team in conversation with leading contemporary artists and there’ll also be music performed in the foyer every week. Both events are free to attend.
Following the success of Entity at Warwick Arts Centre last year, Wayne McGregor | Random Dance return with their show FAR. The classical concert series sees out the 2012/2013 programme on a high, with a blistering all-Russian programme from the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra, and English Touring Opera presents a triumvirate of top classical productions, including a rare chance to see Donizetti’s The Siege of Calais, with a setting inspired by the siege of Stalingrad.
The family programme is full of delights for younger audiences. Trestle Theatre brings its epic tale for little people to the stage with a story of the Indian-set The Snow Queen, based on the fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen. There’s comedy from Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre, and plenty of family films to boot.
Following the success of the Mr Scruff club night last year, dance music will return to the venue this Summer with the first in a regular series of clubnights called In Your Bass. The inaugural event will feature three of the best DJ duos in the business: Stanton Warriors, Evil Nine and Plump Djs. Folk-indie five-piece Noah and the Whale play in May, and Lambchop will be bringing their unique country style to our theatre in June.
As usual, the cream of the comedy crop flock to Warwick Arts Centre this summer, among them Jimmy Carr, Julian Clary and Phill Jupitus.
The Mead Gallery will be staging a number of exhibitions, including a selection of work from a very exciting artist in Katie Paterson: In Another Time.
