Coventry City to train at University of Warwick sports centre
Coventry City will train at Warwick University’s sports facilities as part of their pre-season schedule. The team will spend a week in July training at the university’s sports centre, before touring Austria and Switzerland and playing a high-profile friendly at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.
As Steve Sharman, Assistant Director of PE & Sports explains: “Coventry City’s training grounds are being renovated, so they needed somewhere to train. Warwick University is in a great position, and the sports centre has great facilities.”
This is not the only association the university has with professional football teams. The University of Warwick business school also offers an applied certificate in football management.
The idea for this course came from the League Managers Association (LMA), and is now backed by the Football Association and the Players Football Union, and has proved popular with football managers and players alike.
Sharman
adds: “The association we have with
professional football teams has been going on for over 10 years. We have a good
relationship with the club, and we can help them. It also helps the local
community.”
