Earth Hour at Warwick
The University of Warwick is encouraging people to switch off their lights for one hour this weekend to raise awareness of global warming.
Between 8.30-9.30 pm GMT, on Saturday 28 March 2009, people, businesses, cities and communities around the world will take part in the World Wide Fund for Nature's (WWF) Earth Hour. WWF is targeting a billion people to switch their lights off to show support for action to tackle climate change.
Nick Hillard, Environment Manager at the University, said: “Whether you’re at home or at work, Earth Hour represents a relatively straightforward but fantastic opportunity for everyone across the University to show their commitment to the issue in these challenging times”.
If you are not at home or work during Saturday evening, please make the extra effort to switch off your personal lighting – office lights, computers, other non-essential electrical items before you leave for the weekend.
If you are working during the evening, why not encourage colleagues to reduce lighting levels such as using dimmer switches, switching off some lights and restricting your activities to specific areas.
