International Women's Week

International Women's Week returns to the University from the 28th February, culminating with International Women's Day on the 8th March.

The purpose of the week is to celebrate women's achievements and at the same time raise awareness of the inequalities that women still suffer, globally and in the UK.

The week kicks off with 'Hear Her Sing', a showcase of local female singer-songwriting talent at the Jug & Jester, Leamington Spa on the 28th Feb. This event will also see the launch of the new feminist 'zine 'LIPS'. All proceeds will be donated to Refuge, a charity supporting women and children who've suffered domestic violence.

The week continues with a production of Eve Ensler's 'The Vagina Monologues' (2nd - 4th March). This particular production will focus on the horrors and daily struggle of women in the Democratic Republic of Congo and is complimented by a talk on the subject on the 3rd March. All proceeds will go to the Coventry Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre. Tickets are available from Cholo 11-1pm during the week.

Other events include a mock rape trial (2nd March) by Warwick Law Society which aims to highlight the difficulties of bringing rapists to justice, based on a real rape trial in Italy in 1999; a panel discussion with male feminists debating the male perspective on feminism in 'Real Men are Feminists' (4th March); and other events including photography exhibitions, workshops and debates.
