A Labour Party pre-election event was held on the University campus on Saturday 20th February. The event was held in WMG’s International Digital Laboratory and was attended by the Prime Minister the Rt Hon Gordon Brown MP. The Prime Minister was welcomed to the campus by The Vice–Chancellor Professor Nigel Thrift, and WMG’s Director Professor Lord Kumar Bhattacharyya.

Among the many other ministers attending were: Chancellor of the Exchequer the Rt Hon Alistair Darling MP; Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, First Secretary and Lord President of the Council  the Rt Hon Lord Mandelson; Leader of the House of Commons and Lord Privy Seal the Rt Hon Harriet Harman; Secretary of State for the Home Department Rt Hon Alan Johnson MP; Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Rt Hon Yvette Cooper MP; Secretary of State for Defence Rt Hon Bob Ainsworth MP; and the Minister for the West Midlands Ian Austin MP.
