Looking for local heroes

Do you know someone who’s making a real difference in their local community? Now’s your chance to nominate them in the Coventry Telegraph Community Awards which pay tribute to local heroes and the work they do in their community.

The University of Warwick is again sponsoring the Local Hero category in partnership with Jaguar. Other categories include Young Community Hero, Community Project of the Year, Environmental Hero, Caring Hero, Teacher of the Year and Public Sector Hero.

Coventry Telegraph Community AwardsThe Local Hero award honours those who help to keep their ‘community’ alive. Last year’s Local Hero winner was Ann Melia of Bell Green, Coventry. Vice Chancellor Professor Nigel Thrift presented Ann’s award at a ceremony at the Ricoh Arena in November 2006.

Ann is a very active member of her community and devotes a lot of time to serving the Bell Green Community Centre where she voluntarily runs fitness classes and serves on the Committee. She has also fostered over 200 children and has given over 60 donations of blood. She knits baby clothes for the premature baby unit at Walsgrave and blankets for Myton Hospice as well as various other fundraising and community activities.

If you know someone like Ann, then please fill in the nomination form and give them the opportunity to be honoured in the Coventry Telegraph Community Awards.
