Former Warwick student Tom Aggar rowed to Paralympic Gold last week in Beijing, beating his nearest competitor by four seconds.

This is a fantastic success for Tom, a Biological Sciences graduate originally from London, who started training as a rower less than two years ago just after leaving Warwick with a First class degree.

Tom first came to disability rowing as part of his rehabilitation after suffering a spinal injury. He competed in the National Indoor Championships in 2006, before moving onto the water. Last year at the World Rowing Championships in 2007, Tom secured a gold medal and a new World Record, competing as an unknown in the sport having only raced competitively twice previously.

Tom's sights are now set on competing at the London 2012 Paralympics, when the rowing events will be held at Eton.
